MS Band Spring Concert
On Monday, May 2 and Tuesday, May 3 the Middle School Bands treated friends and family to two fantastic concerts!!! The sixth graders started with a medley of songs entitled Deep in the Jungle. They also played Creatures in the Attic, the Olympians (Ode to Joy), Trumpet Hero and Rockology. It was so exciting to see how much these musicians have improved since the beginning of the school year!!
The seventh grade band performed The Lone Star Overture along with the familiar tunes of Pirates of the Caribbean and Hogan's Heroes March. The song Crunch Time let the percussion shine and Crazy for Cartoons was a crowd favorite featuring many unique sound effects including an actual scream!!
The eighth graders played the song Harambee along with two selections from the Kalahari band festival entitled Amen, and The Eyes of the Dragon. Chris Gleason, the organizer of the Kalahari Festival said:
"I have had the privilege of interacting with the KM middle school band the past seven years at the Band Festival at the Kalihari. As the founder and sole organizer of this event, I work with music educators across four states. Just this year, I heard 49 8th grade bands! I can tell you without hesitation that the Kettle Moraine 8th Grade Band is one of the best bands that attend this festival each year. Mind you, I'm not just talking about a band that performs well, but one that behaves well too! The clinicians I hire each year to work with the bands routinely come back to the table following the Kettle Moraine clinic with nothing but praise for your educators and students. I usually hear 'Those kids really listen well and want to learn. They are going WAY beyond the notes!'"
Please come to hear all of our amazing musicians at the KM District Band Festival on Monday, May 23 at 7:00 in the KMHS West Gym!! The eighth graders will be presenting the KM premiere of the piece Irish Rising which was composed by Michael Sweeney specifically for the KM eighth grade band!! Michael Sweeney will be the guest conductor at the KM District Band Festival. Thank you for a wonderful night of music!!!
